Apart from the length of the blade, these gouges are identical to the standard length gouges. The increased length of the blade allows a further reach into the workpiece. These are detailing tools used on between centre work, where the grain is running parallel to the lathe bed. Spindle gouges are used to create coves, beads and other profiles on goblets, vases, bed posts, candle sticks and other spindle projects.
